Osaka Takoyaki Museum
The Osaka Takoyaki Museum is located in Konohana Ward, Osaka, and is the world’s first museum dedicated to takoyaki, perhaps also one of the most unique museums in the world, as visitors can not only watch but also eat – and admission is free.
Takoyaki is a dish that originated in the Kansai region of Japan, made by adding pieces of octopus to a batter and forming small balls about 3–5 cm in diameter, mainly served as a snack. In the early days, they were skewered on bamboo sticks in sets of three, but today in Osaka they are eaten with toothpicks, while in Tokyo they are typically eaten with chopsticks. Takoyaki is one of Osaka’s most iconic fast foods. Known for its crispy exterior, tender filling, delicious taste, and affordable price, Osaka takoyaki is a beloved national snack in Japan.
The Osaka Takoyaki Museum brings together five famous shops based in Osaka. Visitors can sample everything from classic, original-style takoyaki to creative specialty varieties. In addition to eating, guests can learn about the origins, history, preparation methods, and characteristics of takoyaki through exhibits in the museum, making it a favorite among international tourists.
