Osaka Museum of Natural History currently has two facilities: the "Flower, Greenery, and Nature Information Center" and the main building. The first floor of the information center houses the special exhibition "The Nature of Osaka," while the second floor hosts special exhibitions. The permanent exhibitions are located in the main building.

The "Nature of Osaka" exhibition displays the diverse natural wonders found in Osaka, along with extensive knowledge about Osaka-specific insects, trees, birds, animals, and rocks. It also provides information on nature hiking routes that help visitors enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature during their stay in the Kansai region. The main building’s permanent exhibition is arranged around a unified narrative, consisting of 27 themes spread across the first to fourth exhibition halls. Through research and investigation into various fields of natural history, staff have collected a wide range of natural specimens. These are presented in an easy-to-understand and engaging way, showcasing the amazing diversity of life on Earth and its astonishing evolution over time. Among the most captivating exhibits are fossil specimens of ancient animals such as dinosaurs and prehistoric mammoths, ranking second only to the National Museum of Nature and Science in scale. The outdoor botanical garden recreates Osaka’s plant life from ancient times to the present and actively hosts various nature observation events.
