Osaka Minato Wild Bird Park

Spanning 19.3 hectares, the wild bird park was created on an artificial tidal flat in the northwest corner of Sakishima, an artificial landfill in Osaka Bay. Known historically as "Sumiyotu," the Osaka Bay once had extensive natural wetlands that acted as crucial stopover sites for migratory birds. Shorebirds and plovers, which breed in the Arctic regions of Siberia and Alaska and migrate to Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand for the winter, stop here to replenish their energy during their journey. In response to requests from local residents, the park was established in 1983. Inside the park, visitors can hear the chirping of small birds, and at the observation posts, they can get a close-up view. Approximately 100,000 people visit the park each year.
