Mysterious Slope

The Mysterious Slope in Yanggao County, Shanxi Province, is located along a roughly 5-kilometer mountain road stretching from Xujia Garden Village to Yushugou Village. This hilly road, which slopes from north to south, features seven such “mysterious slopes” that can be observed when driving from south to north. These slopes range in length from over 100 meters to just over 40 meters.

The slope appears to have an incline of around 20 degrees. When a car is parked at the bottom of the slope, it will slide uphill on its own; if a motorcycle is parked at the bottom with the engine turned off, it can move uphill on its own, reaching speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour. If two buckets of water are poured at the bottom of the slope, the water flows uphill, and the steeper the slope, the faster it flows. There are various theories about the cause of the “Mysterious Slope,” but further verification is needed.
