The Nian’ertun Tombs are a cultural heritage site protected at the county level in Yanggao County.

The Nian’ertun Tombs date back to the Han Dynasty and are located north of Gucheng Village in Yanggao County.

On December 25, 2018, the Nian’ertun Tombs were designated as a county-level cultural heritage site under the protection of Yanggao County.

Gucheng Town: Gucheng Town is situated on the southern side of the central hilly region. It lies 30 kilometers from the county seat and covers an area of 65.6 square kilometers. The terrain is largely loess hills, which account for 94% of the area. It is the region with the lowest annual rainfall in the county, averaging around 360 mm per year. Coupled with long hours of sunshine, high evaporation rates, compacted soil, poor water permeability, strong winds, and severe soil erosion, the area suffers from drought in nine out of ten years. In many years, there isn’t even one heavy rainfall from planting to harvest. Crops struggle through their life cycle like malnourished infants, barely surviving, resulting in persistently low grain yields. Before 1965, the yield per mu was only about 30 kilograms.
