Sai Wu Hu Park

Sai Wu Hu Park is a park under the jurisdiction of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong. It is located at the northern foot of Braemar Hill in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island, with its main entrance on Braemar Hill Road, covering an area of approximately 2,400 square meters.

History

The Swire Group established a private reservoir in the mid-levels of the Seven Sisters area in North Point in 1883, known as the Seven Sisters Reservoir. Because local residents believed its scenery rivaled that of West Lake in Hangzhou, China, the reservoir was also referred to as Sai Wu Hu. The reservoir supplied water to the Taikoo Dockyard, Taikoo Sugar Refinery, and Hong Kong Soda Water Factory located in Taikoo. In 1977, the reservoir was filled in to develop a private residential area, and part of the land was returned to the British Hong Kong government for management. In 1985, the Urban Council of Hong Kong built Sai Wu Hu Park on the northern shore of the former reservoir.

Sai Wu Hu Park retains the water gate of the original Sai Wu Hu reservoir, and features two ponds, numerous winding paths, restrooms, pavilions, and a canteen among other facilities. The snack kiosk attracts students from the nearby Shanghai Alumni Association Secondary School to buy lunchboxes on school days.
