City Art Square

City Art Square is located in Sha Tin District, New Territories, Hong Kong, adjacent to the Sha Tin Town Hall, the Royal Park Hotel, and the large shopping mall New Town Plaza. The project commenced construction in November 2007 and officially opened to the public on the afternoon of July 22, 2008. Its primary purpose was to provide a space where over 300 athletes, accompanying personnel, technical staff, and members of the public in the area could experience the Olympic atmosphere during the 2008 Summer Olympics Equestrian Events, thereby enhancing the urban environment of Sha Tin’s city center. City Art Square permanently exhibits 20 pieces of artwork created by internationally renowned artists and designers from around the world.

Covering an area of approximately 190,000 square feet, City Art Square is divided into six distinct zones, each featuring landscaped designs centered around different themes, including sculptures that integrate public art and Olympic elements, all intricately crafted and uniquely styled. The entire design, architecture, and acquisition of artworks—all expenses—were undertaken by the Sun Hung Kai Properties Charitable Foundation under Sun Hung Kai Properties. The sculptures feature artistic works by renowned artists and designers from overseas, mainland China, and Hong Kong, including the celebrated British architect Zaha Hadid, the acclaimed Italian sculptor Mimmo Paladino, and famous Hong Kong fashion designers such as Vivienne Tam, Freeman Lau, and the lead architect of City Art Square, William Ho.
