Ma On Shan Country Park is located in the central part of the Sai Kung Peninsula in the eastern New Territories. Established in 1979, it covers an area of 2,880 hectares. The park starts from Fei Ngo Shan in the south and includes the main part of Ma On Shan, hence its name. The park is divided into two sections: apart from the Ma On Shan area, the Pat Sin Leng Peninsula between Pak Sha Wan and Ngau Mei Hoi also belongs to the park.

Connected to Sai Kung Country Park and Lion Rock Country Park, Ma On Shan Country Park forms an extensive recreational area on Ma On Shan. Its natural environment remains largely undisturbed, providing a habitat for a variety of wildlife. Commonly seen mammals include pangolins, porcupines, wild boars, and barking deer. The dense woodlands around the Pat Sin Leng Peninsula are a gathering spot for numerous bird species. As you stroll along the park’s crisscrossing trails, you’ll often hear birds chirping, though patience is required to catch a glimpse of them perched high up in the trees. While exploring the park, you can see the aptly named Big Golden Bell Mountain, Ma On Shan itself which rises 702 meters above sea level, and the extremely steep and rugged Tai Shing Shan ridge. From certain vantage points, you can also enjoy views of the Sai Kung Peninsula to the east, including Sharp Peak, High Island Reservoir, and Kiu Tsui Chau.

Ma On Shan Country Park features several barbecue sites, located at Shek O, Kei Ling Ha, Nai Chung, and Ma On Shan Village. Among these, the Ma On Shan Village and Nai Chung barbecue sites are popular leisure spots for visitors during holidays.
