Aksu Museum, also known as Aksu Regional Museum, is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. The new museum building was completed and opened to the public on December 26, 2017. Located along the scenic Duolang River, the museum’s interior and exterior designs reflect the aesthetics of the Han and Tang dynasties, presenting a grand and dignified atmosphere that integrates traditional Chinese culture, local features, and the spirit of the times. With a total investment of 180 million yuan, the museum covers a construction area of 18,000 square meters, including nearly 9,000 square meters of exhibition space, and houses a collection of over 11,000 cultural relics. It consists of four permanent exhibition halls — “Aksu History and Culture,” “Ancient Currency of Xinjiang,” “Aksu Natural Geography,” and “Setting Sail from the Red Boat: The History and Achievements of the Communist Party of China” — three temporary exhibition halls, the first digital exhibition hall in the entire Xinjiang region, and a reconstructed Kucha Cave exhibition hall. These spaces collectively showcase Aksu’s profound historical heritage and unique natural landscape. Aksu Museum plays an important role in promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture, telling the stories of Aksu, highlighting its splendor, and strengthening patriotic education.

Situated along the beautiful Duolang River, Aksu Museum draws inspiration from the beauty and essence of Han and Tang architectural styles. The museum’s façade features a large hand-painted porcelain mural titled “Flying Apsaras” from Jingdezhen, which vividly reflects the aesthetic appeal of Buddhist murals and the profound influence of Buddhist culture on Aksu.

Using modern artistic techniques, the museum profoundly embodies the theme of dialogue between history and the present, and the coexistence of tradition and transcendence. In terms of interior exhibitions, it employs a variety of high-tech methods such as sound, light, electricity, and multimedia to reveal the rich historical and cultural connotations of Aksu from different perspectives. These include restored models of ancient cities, scenes of ancient currency minting, 3D imagery of the envoy Jiang Bin’s court visit, augmented reality interactions featuring Kucha music and dance, a “magic mirror” costume-changing experience, and 3D holographic displays of precious cultural relics. Through these vivid and intuitive exhibition methods, visitors can more directly and vividly understand Aksu’s long history, unique regional culture, natural geography, and distinctive features through visual, auditory, and interactive experiences.
