Karakul Lake Scenic Area is a comprehensive destination offering multiple functions such as sightseeing, leisure, water recreation, adventure, and wellness. It has been designated as an “AA”

-level tourist attraction.

Karakul Lake Scenic Area is situated in Bulunku Township, Aketao County, beneath the “Three Giants of Kunlun Mountain,” next to the China-Pakistan Highway. It lies about 100 kilometers in a straight line from Aketao County town, and approximately 212 kilometers and 258 kilometers in a straight line from Kashgar and Artux, respectively.

Karakul Lake is the highest lake in the world, with an altitude of over 4,000 meters and covering an area of 10 square kilometers, making it a true alpine lake.

The Karakul Lake Scenic Area features a natural landscape characterized by high mountains, lakes, and renowned snow-capped peaks. The lake water is crystal-clear and azure blue, but whenever dark clouds gather and thunder rumbles, the lake can instantly turn pitch black, becoming a veritable Black Lake. At dawn when the morning glow fills the sky or at dusk as the sun sets, the lake glows a golden-red. Changing with the weather, Karakul Lake resembles a beautiful princess adorning herself in the most fashionable and stunning outfits, creating a mesmerizing and delightful view that captivates visitors. Even more astonishing is that throughout the year, the pristine white reflections of “Father of the Ice Mountains” Muztagh Ata and the “Ice Mountain Princesses” Kongur Tagh and Kongur Tiubie Tagh appear in the lake in various graceful postures, further enhancing the charm and mystique of these sister lakes.
