Sister Lakes

The Sister Lakes are located beside the China-Pakistan Highway in Subash Township, Bulunku County, Aketao County. There are two connected lakes, which are the famous Sister Lakes, also known as Karakul Lake. Around Karakul Lake are the pastures of the Kyrgyz people. On the lush green grass, Kyrgyz shepherd girls wearing small floral hats move gracefully among flocks of sheep and cattle. At sunset, herders returning with their livestock drive the animals to the lake to drink, while the distant sound of camel bells grows nearer, ringing out with a gentle clatter.

The Sister Peaks adorn themselves in different colored garments, and their reflections shimmer in the lake, naturally changing the water’s hues. At this moment, gazing up at the Sister Peaks as they put on their morning makeup, their radiant faces are lightly brushed with a touch of blush, making them appear even more enchanting and graceful. The veils on their heads take on a faint yellow hue, and their plain dresses turn orange-red. Only at this time can people catch a glimpse of the true beauty of the Sister Peaks. It is also at this moment that the waters of the Sister Lakes display their mesmerizing array of colors. After finishing their morning adornment, the Sister Peaks wave their sleeves in the rays of dawn, half-concealing their rosy faces with their light veils. Now, the Sister Lakes under the rosy glow present an even more magnificent sight—the lake surface, rippling in golden light, glows a fiery red, like a burning flame, while the snow-capped mountains and grasslands are all bathed in a golden hue. Even the white yurts are tinged with gold. It is a world of blazing red, a world of fire, a world untainted by any falsehood or impurity.
