Aketao White Sand Mountain

White Sand Mountain, also known as "Singing Sand Mountain," is one of the unique landscapes of Xinjiang. It is located in Bulunkou Township, Aketao County, over 100 kilometers in a straight line from Aketao County.

White Sand Mountain is a towering peak among the Pamir Plateau mountain range. Years of weathering have turned the summit's rocks into a powdery sand that has spilled down, covering the mountain body—hence the name White Sand Mountain. The fine, silvery-white sand is soft and smooth, resembling white silk. With a relative height of about 460 meters, the White Sand Mountain, formed by more than ten ridges, stretches for over ten kilometers. In front of the mountain lies Bulunkule Lake, and behind it is Qialake Lake. The lakeshores are rich in water plants and teem with waterfowl. The greenish mountain mass is partially covered with white sand, partially exposed, undulating continuously. Snow-capped mountains and lakes complement each other in a breathtaking scene. Whenever strong winds blow, the White Sand Mountain emits a resonant sound, which is why it is also called "Singing Sand Mountain."
