Danglang Painting Village Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Danglang Painting Village Scenic Area. Danglang Painting Village is located in Kumukusar Township, Makit County, about 7 kilometers south of the county town. The total planned area of Danglang Painting Village is 2 square kilometers, with a core zone covering over 500 acres.

Danglang Painting Village has been constructed following an overall planning layout of “one street, two zones, and one new village.” It mainly includes a Danglang-themed cultural tourism street, an exhibition, creation, and visitor painting experience area for Danglang farmer paintings, as well as a folk culture experience area featuring Danglang song and dance performances and specialty cuisine. Key internal areas include the Taklamakan Desert Exploration Memorial Hall, Farmer Painting Exhibition Hall (including sections for farmer paintings, gourd painting handicrafts, ethnic musical instruments, farmer painting creation experiences, and the sales of farmer paintings and handicrafts), ethnic cuisine area, Danglang Painting Village Scenic Garden, Farmer Painters’ Village, Taklamakan Desert Exploration Base Camp, pedestrian street, “Papuzi” activity area (a traditional Uyghur sport similar to hockey), “Sahadi” activity area (similar to a swing), and a song and dance performance square.

Danglang farmer paintings originated in the late 19th century, developed in the mid-20th century, and flourished in the new century. These Danglang people, who have remained tied to farming through generations, pick up simple painting tools during their leisure time to create rustic artworks. Their paintings are characterized by bright colors, vivid tones, exaggerated shapes, free and unrestrained styles, simplicity and naturalness, strong life elements, straightforward charm, and aesthetic appeal. Their unique creative style and artistic charm have drawn attention from the national art community.

To date, there are 107 Danglang farmer painting households and over 300 key creators of Danglang farmer paintings in our county. The “Danglang people” living within the big family of Makit possess rich imagination and artistic creativity. They have brought “Danglang farmer paintings” into the vibrant garden of modern folk painting art. With their distinctive creative styles and artistic appeal, these works enjoy a reputation both domestically and internationally, have entered the forefront of China’s farmer painting scene, and have attracted attention from the global art community.
