Shashan Park

Shashan Park is located in Pizhan Township, Shanshan County, adjacent to the northern part of Shanshan County, making it easily accessible. It is a park established by taking advantage of the unique geographical environment at the contact zone between the northern edge of the Kumtag Desert and the Shanshan Oasis. Since its initial construction in 1990, it has taken initial shape, and now plans are underway to further develop it into a multifunctional comprehensive urban park for leisure, vacation, sightseeing, fitness, and more.

The park is divided into northern and southern sections, separated by a stream that runs east-west along the edge of the sand dunes. The northern section covers an area of 500 acres and includes, on the eastern side, a water sports area, cultural and entertainment zone, children’s play area, flower viewing area, and vineyard. The western side features a lawn area and botanical garden. The southern section consists of desert terrain, with designated areas for desert activities, sand therapy, and desert plants.

On the sand dunes in the southern part of Shashan Park, summers are scorching and winters are cold, with significant temperature differences between day and night. In the peak of summer, temperatures are extremely high, with surface sand temperatures exceeding 70°C, reaching as high as 82.3°C. The park has designated areas for sand therapy, attracting many patients with conditions such as arthritis for treatment. Further south lies a large sand dune, where the ridgeline is sharply defined, the dune crests smooth as lines, the windward side rippling like flowing silk, and the leeward slope cascading with pouring sand. Standing atop the dune, one can quietly await the magnificent moment of the desert sunrise or witness the natural spectacle of the sunset dyeing the horizon — feeling perfectly at one with nature. The northern part of the park, separated from the dunes by a stream, experiences less variation between winter and summer temperatures, offering a cool and moist climate in the summer. A stream formed by spring water is crystal clear and murmurs gently, surrounded by tall, elegant ancient trees that provide dense shade. In the depressions, bubbling springs disturb the shifting sands, creating an enchanting scene. The park also features an artificial lake with calm, azure waters reflecting the pavilion on the islet in the center, set against the backdrop of towering sand dunes — a truly captivating sight. With its superior conditions, Shashan Park has become a key focus of urban development in Shanshan County, currently attracting over ten thousand visitors each year. Plans to integrate desert tourism routes with park development are expected to create regional advantages, establishing it as the most promising tourist destination and offering some of the most attractive travel experiences.
