The Ancient Great Wall in Yanchi

The Great Wall is a great wonder created by the working people of all ethnic groups in ancient China. It symbolizes the diligence, wisdom, and unyielding spirit of the Chinese nation, and is also a treasure of world civilization. In ancient times, Yanchi was located at the northern frontier, holding strategic importance. To strengthen border defenses, successive dynasties built multiple sections of the Great Wall here. Currently, there are four clearly visible sections of the Great Wall in our county. Among them, three were built during the Ming Dynasty – constructed in the 10th year of the Chenghua reign (1474

), the 15th year of the Hongzhi reign (1502),

and the 10th year of the Jiajing reign (1531),

with a total length of 186 kilometers. Another section is from the Sui Dynasty, built in the 5th year of the Kaihuang reign (585), stretching 30 kilometers. Sui Dynasty Great Wall remnants are extremely rare across the country, making this section in Yanchi especially precious. These four walls form an angular enclosure around Yanchi,

hence Yanchi has earned the reputation of being a “Great Wall Museum.”
