The Ancient City of Kelan Prefecture

The Ancient City of Kelan Prefecture is a cultural heritage site protected by Xinzhou City.

The Ancient City of Kelan Prefecture is located around Xijie Village in Lanyi Town, Kelan County. The existing ruins date back to the Ming Dynasty. It has a rectangular layout, stretching 1,850 meters from east to west and 1,100 meters from north to south, covering an area of 2.035 million square meters. The remaining sections include the eastern wall at 1,039 meters, the western wall at 947 meters, the southern wall at 1,600 meters, and the northern wall at 1,750 meters. The base of the walls is 6–15 meters wide, the top is 3–11 meters wide, and the remaining height is 5–12 meters. The walls were built with rammed earth and faced with bricks and stones. The rammed layers are 0.08–0.2 meters thick, and the facing bricks are 1.3 meters thick. Three city gates—east, south, and north—and their barbicans still exist, along with a corner tower at the northeast and five bastions. In 1984, the Kelan County People's Government designated it as a county-level cultural heritage site.
