Doushu Temple Pagoda

Doushu Temple Pagoda is a cultural heritage site protected by Kelan County.

Doushu Temple Pagoda is located approximately 200 meters northeast of Shenshangyan Village in ShenTangping Township, Kelan County. According to the inscriptions on the pagoda, it was built in the 17th year of the Hongzhi reign during the Ming Dynasty (1504), making it a relic from that period. The structure is an octagonal five-story pavilion-style stone pagoda, with an octagonal base. The base measures 0.5 meters on each side, covering a ground area of 1.2 square meters, and stands 5.94 meters tall in total. The pagoda has a molded base, supporting an inverted and upright lotus pedestal. Each of the five stories is equipped with an upright lotus base and wooden-style eaves. The first story is carved on all eight sides with inscriptions—64 lines in regular script, with 13 characters per line—documenting how people contributed funds between the Chenghua and Hongzhi eras of the Ming Dynasty to establish the temple for the benefit of future generations. It was written by Dawen Zhang from Shenmu, Shaanxi, and co-created with the temple’s monk Qingchan, who also crafted the sacred statues. The second to fourth stories feature Buddha niches on four sides, with Buddha statues carved on those sides. The spire consists of an upright lotus base topped with a precious gem. Currently, there is one stele from the Ming Dynasty recording renovations, and another from the Qing Dynasty. In 1984, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the Kelan County People's Government.
