Pianguan Wanjiazhai Water Control Hub

The Wanjiazhai Water Control Hub is located in the Tuoketuo to Longkou Gorge section of the northern main stream of the Yellow River. It is the first project among the eight planned cascades for development in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, and also the leading project of Shanxi Province’s “Yellow River Diversion to Shanxi” initiative. Primarily designed for water supply and power generation, it also serves flood control, ice jam prevention, and tourism functions. Today’s Wanjiazhai is no longer the desolate scene of “lofty skies over gloomy ravines, barren borders devoid of trees or birds’ nests.” Over 80,000 square meters of green space and more than 100,000 pine and weeping willow trees adorn the dam complex, living quarters, and the slopes on both banks of the Yellow River. What were once barren hills and rocky wastelands are now covered with lush greenery, and the former gravel flats have been transformed into beautiful green lawns. Every blade of grass and tree nurtured by the hands of the builders, together with the dam forged by their sweat, blend into a unique landscape—bursting with blossoms, evergreen pines and cypresses, verdant hillsides, lush earth, towering dams, clusters of high-rises, and shimmering blue waters.
