Baozang Temple

Baozang Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Fanshi County.

Baozang Temple is located in Zhongzhuangzhai Village, Dongshan Township, Fanshi County. It faces south and measures 27.6 meters from east to west and 18 meters from north to south, covering an area of 496.8 square meters. The exact date of its establishment is unknown. According to inscriptions, the temple was rebuilt in the sixth year of the Dading era of the Jin Dynasty (1166) and the tenth year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1582), and underwent renovation in the twenty-third year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1818). The existing structures date back to the Ming Dynasty. The temple features a two-courtyard layout, with only the Yuange Hall remaining on the central axis, also known as the Thousand Buddha Hall. To the east of the central axis is a side courtyard, where only the Guanyin Hall remains. The Yuange Hall stands on a brick-and-stone platform that is 1.5 meters high, with a front terrace measuring 11.2 meters long and 5 meters wide. The hall has three bays in width and four rafters in depth, featuring a five-rafter front porch structure and a single-eave hip-and-gable roof. The column-top bracket sets feature simplified dougong brackets with single hinges. The hall’s interior walls are adorned with over 10 square meters of murals. Within the courtyard are two steles commemorating renovations, one from the tenth year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1582) and another from the twenty-third year of the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty (1818). On April 15, 1985, the Fanshi County People's Government designated it as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.
