Great Buddha Temple

The Great Buddha Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Xinfu District.

The Great Buddha Temple is located within Jimin Fort, north of Youyao Village, Dongcun Town, Xinfu District. It faces south and covers an area of 3,510 square meters. The exact date of its construction is unknown, but according to a stone plaque in Jimin Fort, it was renovated in the third year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1853). The existing structures include the Thousand Buddha Hall, Guan Yu Hall, and Huangtang Hall. Except for the Huangtang Hall, which was rebuilt on the original site in 2007, the rest are remnants from the Qing Dynasty. The fort’s gate is built of stone, with a 3-meter-wide, 6-meter-deep, and 2.5-meter-high archway. The Thousand Buddha Hall is three bays wide and four rafters deep, featuring plank doors, straight lattice windows, and a single-eave suspended gable roof. The Guan Yu Hall is a standalone structure with a decorative archway gate at the front and a single-eave flush gable roof. On April 10, 1985, the former People's Government of Xinzhou City (a county-level city) designated it as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit. Youyao Village: Located approximately 10 kilometers southeast of Xinzhou City, Youyao Village borders Dingxingzhai to the south, Taiyan to the north, Dongcun to the east, and Shuangbao to the west. The village has a population of 2,600 and over 9,000 mu of arable land, including 5,000 mu of irrigated land and more than 4,000 mu of dry land. The main crops are corn and sweet potatoes. There are 18 deep wells in total—two for drinking water for people and livestock—and one private flour milling station. In recent years, the village has paved 13 kilometers of roads, built a new school, and constructed a new village-level activity center.
