Northern Song West Temple

The Northern Song West Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Xinfu District.

The Northern Song West Temple is located to the west of Beisong Village in Ziyi Township, Xinfu District. It faces south with its back to the north and covers an area of 4,389 square meters. The year of its establishment is unknown. According to inscriptions on the beams of the main hall, it was renovated in the second year of the Zhizheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1342), during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1662–1722), and in the 24th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1819). Existing structures include the passageway hall, main hall, east side hall, east and west wing halls, and the bell and drum towers. Except for the east wing hall, which is newly built, the rest are remnants from the Qing Dynasty. The passageway hall is three bays wide and five rafters deep, featuring a single dougong with interlaced hemp-leaf brackets and a bucket arch. The main hall is five bays wide and seven rafters deep, also with a single dougong and bucket arch. The east wing hall is three bays wide and five rafters deep, with a style dating back to the Qing Dynasty. The west wing hall is three bays wide and five rafters deep, also reflecting Qing Dynasty architecture. The east bell tower is three bays wide and three rafters deep, with Qing Dynasty features. The west drum tower is three bays wide and three rafters deep, also showing Qing Dynasty characteristics. On April 10, 1985, the former People's Government of Xinzhou City (a county-level city) designated it as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.
