Youyao Site

Youyao Site

The Youyao Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Xinzhou City.

The Youyao Site is located about 200 meters south of Youyao Village, Dongcun Town, Xinfu District. The site spans approximately 400 meters from east to west and 500 meters from north to south, covering an area of about 200,000 square meters. Cultural layer deposits are exposed on the cliff faces, with a thickness of around 1.2 to 1.8 meters. Two excavations were conducted in 1987 and 1989, with an excavation area of about 1,200 square meters. Artifacts collected include gray pottery shards with fine clay and gray pottery shards with sand inclusions, with vessel shapes such as dou (a type of ancient Chinese vessel). The site is a remnant of the Longshan Culture from the Neolithic Age. On June 6, 2007, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage conservation unit by the People’s Government of Xinzhou City.
