The town and its surroundings boast many unique natural landscapes. Mount Dailuo and Lingjiu Peak feature undulating ridges and peaks, crisscrossing mountain ranges, wildflowers in full bloom, and springs scattered all over. Listen to the tinkling of the springs and admire the beautiful scenery. A gentle breeze brushes your cheeks, refreshing and pleasant — truly a “cool paradise” where “there is never any summer heat.” Taihuai Town is a treasured site of China’s Buddhist culture and ancient architectural artistry. Throughout the dynasties, both imperial courts and Buddhist devotees have built temples here and in the surrounding areas, turning the region into a Buddhist hub dense with temples and pagodas. Over half of the Buddhist temples on Mount Wutai are concentrated in Taihuai Town, earning it the reputation as the “capital of the Buddhist realm.” With its magnificent natural landscapes and profound cultural heritage, Taihuai Town in Wutai County was honored in the first list of 105 “National Characteristic Landscape Tourism Towns (Villages)” jointly announced in 2010 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the National Tourism Administration.
