The Tuo Liang Section of Yan Xishan's Eastern Mountain Fortifications

The Tuo Liang Section of Yan Xishan's Eastern Mountain Fortifications is located on Nan Tuo Liang Mountain (also known as Rose Tuo), about 5 kilometers southeast of Laobao Gou Village in Menxianshi Township, Wutai County. The Eastern Mountain Fortifications stretch approximately 90 kilometers in total, starting from Dongyukou in Chenjiazhuang Township to the south and reaching Lijiayu in Shizui Township to the north.

These fortifications were built after the outbreak of the war between Yan Xishan’s forces and the Fengtian Army in the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929). To strengthen defenses, Yan Xishan deployed the 12th Division of the Sixth Army under Feng Yuxi and three artillery regiments to occupy the positions. The Tuo Liang Section is part of this fortification system, constructed at the saddle-shaped mountain pass on Nan Tuo Liang Mountain. It sits high above and overlooks Pingshan County and Fuping County in Hebei Province, covering a total area of 357 square meters. The entire structure consists of stone-arched cave shelters, covered with soil for concealment.
