The Ancestral Hall of the Zhao Family in Huaiyin is located in the center of Huaiyin Village, Dongye Town, Wutai County. In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), funded by Zhao Chengshou and presided over by Zhao Daiwen, it was relocated from its original site at Niangniang Hall to its current location. The hall faces south and covers an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. The wing rooms are nine bays wide, with a central gateway, six rafters deep, and feature a flush-gable roof with gray tiles and a rolled eave. The original plaque has been destroyed and was replaced in 2001 with a new one inscribed with “Noble Clan of Shanxi.” The main hall of the ancestral shrine is nine bays wide and seven rafters deep, with a front porch, a flush-gable roof with gray tiles, and a gray tile core edged with yellow glazed tiles. Inside, there are five bays of shrines, all filled with memorial tablets of ancestors from various generations. The hall underwent roof repairs in 2001, but the beams and frames remained untouched. The west caretaker’s room is three bays wide and five rafters deep, with a front porch, a flush-gable roof with gray tiles, and bracket sets extending outwards. The southern scholar’s room also has three bays and five rafters, featuring a corridor in front, a flush-gable roof with gray tiles, and a carved beam design. There are six stone tablets inside, and the courtyard walls are high. To the east lies a stone pagoda from the second year of the Mingchang era of the Jin Dynasty (1191).

Spring arrives particularly early here, earning it the reputation of “Early Greening in Huaiyin.” The entire village faces south and is situated on a long, narrow terrain stretching 4 kilometers from east to west. Residential courtyards are scattered across high ridges and deep valleys, among which there are numerous compounds built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as many cultural relics and historic sites. Notably, in the center of the village stands a school built as early as 1934. The school is divided into five levels according to the terrain and consists of seven courtyards, arranged in a staggered layout of varying heights—a typical example of Ming and Qing architectural style. 201…… More details about Huaiyin Village++
