Taihuai Cliff Carvings

The Taihuai Cliff Carvings are located on a cliff approximately 100 meters south of Taihuai Village in Taihuai Town, Wutai County. The carvings span about 10 meters in width and 2.5 meters in height, covering a total area of around 25 square meters. Three well-preserved niches feature Buddhist stone sculptures, with the largest being a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, measuring 1 meter in width and 2.1 meters in height. Smaller carvings include a one-Buddha-two-Bodhisattva composition, measuring 0.6 meters in width and 0.8 meters in height. The smallest is a statue of Manjushri riding a lion, 0.6 meters wide and 0.7 meters high. These exquisitely carved works are valuable resources for studying Han Buddhism and Han sculpture art. Taihuai Village: The village consists of 13 residential groups, with 672 households, 2,679 residents, 11 Party groups, 81 Party members, and 3 probationary Party members. Thanks to its proximity to the tourism treasure that is Mount Wutai and its unique geographical environment, residents are mainly engaged in scattered tourism-related businesses, such as crafting exquisite handicrafts and selling the renowned and nutritious Taihuai mushrooms. There are also small-scale livestock operations, and some villagers make a living by working outside the village.
