The Imperial Stele of Emperor Kangxi at Shehu Chuan

The Imperial Stele of Emperor Kangxi at Shehu Chuan is located in the backyard of the Heavenly King Hall of Tailu Temple in Shehu Chuan Village, Shizui Township, Wutai County. It faces east and covers an area of 7 square meters. The stele is made of stone, with a dragon-headed top, standing 4.9 meters tall, 1.28 meters wide, and 0.35 meters thick.

The inscription, carved in both Manchu and Chinese languages using regular script in Chinese characters, records the event of Emperor Kangxi shooting a ferocious tiger during his visit to the area. This is an imperial stele personally commissioned by Kangxi, erected in the 28th year of his reign (1689). The village name “Shehu Chuan” originates from this event. In the same year, extensive renovations were carried out at Tailu Temple, which was also designated as an imperial lodging for the emperors of the Qing Dynasty.
