Rock Carvings on the South Slope

The rock carvings on the South Slope are located about 700 meters west of Nansapo Natural Village, Yangbaiyu Village, Taihuai Town, Wutai County. Only one niche of rock carvings remains on the mountainside. The carved Buddha statue is 0.8 meters high and 0.6 meters wide, with a frontal area of 0.48 square meters. The depiction of Manjushri on the carving shows him seated in lotus position on a lotus throne, holding an arrow in his right hand. The carving is exquisitely crafted with skilled artistry and smooth drapery, making it a valuable resource for the study of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan carving. It dates back to the Ming Dynasty.
