Ancient Buddha Temple of Mount Wutai

The Ancient Buddha Temple of Mount Wutai is a cultural heritage site protected by Wutai County.

The Ancient Buddha Temple of Mount Wutai is located approximately 200 meters northwest of Shicun Village in Jinggaoku Township, Wutai County. It faces east and measures 137.15 meters from east to west and 121 meters from north to south, covering an area of about 1.7 square meters. Its founding date is unknown. It was renovated in the 11th year of the Republic of China (1922) and refurbished in the early 1980s. The existing structures date back to the Qing Dynasty.

The temple features a three-courtyard layout. Along the central axis are, in sequence, a stone memorial archway, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Guanyin Hall, the Mahavira Hall, and the Scripture Depository. On both sides are the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, side halls, and auxiliary halls. In the middle of the courtyard are east and west wing courtyards (newly built), housing monk quarters, guest rooms, and the Thousand Buddha Pagoda (newly built). In recent years, the various halls have been renovated and repainted. In July 1988, the People’s Government of Wutai County designated it as a county-level cultural heritage site. Hamashi Village: Overview of Shicun

Shicun is located 1.5 kilometers south of Jinggaoku Township. The village has 119 households and a population of 250, covering an area of 6,000 mu, including 199.6 mu of arable land. In 2010, the per capita income was 2,240 yuan. The village has 26 Party members, including 5 female members. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture and animal husbandry, with main crops including potatoes, corn, and minor grains.
