Foping Yaoziliang Scenic Area
Yaoziliang is an off-the-beaten-path “takin village” located in Shangshawo Village, Changjiaoba Township, Foping County. Situated at the junction of Foping, Zhouzhi, and Ningshan counties, it sits at an altitude of 2,548 meters. Due to the surrounding towering mountains and well-preserved ecology, it has become the region with the highest density of wildlife in the Qinling Mountains. From June to September, takins gather here from all directions. The presence of takins adds vitality and mystery to the Qinling Mountains. Yaoziliang also attracts more and more outdoor enthusiasts who come to uncover the magical and breathtaking beauty of the Qinling range.
As the altitude increases, the vegetation on Yaoziliang is distributed in distinct layers: secondary forest → red birch forest → fir forest → cowhide birch forest → alpine meadow and bamboo forest. Yaoziliang boasts large tracts of alpine rhododendron forests and produces wild tea, locally known as Yaowang Tea.
From early June to late August each year, takins begin to gather along the ridges of Yaoziliang, where lush, tender grass thrives. The cool climate and open terrain make it the perfect place for their courtship displays.
Takins live in this dense forest. Adult takins feature strong muscles beneath their golden fur, creating a striking outline that showcases power and beauty. Their twisted, sturdy, and sharp horns serve as symbols of status and identity.
Takins are highly alert. Though unafraid of humans, they will snort loudly when sensing any disturbance, approach cautiously, and assume an attacking posture. If they feel threatened, they will quickly flee, vanishing into the jungle.
In the glow of the setting sun, the majestic mountains are cloaked in deep green. At the boundary between sky and earth, dark green and sapphire blue blend into an incomparably magnificent scene. Witnessing this sight makes one feel uplifted and almost otherworldly. Scattered across the highland meadows are a few unnamed purple wildflowers, revealing the gentle and delicate side of Yaoziliang. At the mountaintop, a cluster of uniquely shaped stone pillars resembles exquisitely crafted potted landscapes, making visitors wonder whether they are admiring the view—or are themselves part of this natural masterpiece.
The blazing sun cannot dampen people’s desire to visit Yaoziliang. They measure its height with their feet, capture its beauty with their eyes, and feel its vastness with their hearts. The bubbling streams along the way not only provide refreshing, clear spring water but also bring endless joy. The emerald-green pools beneath the waterfalls form natural bathing areas. Splashing droplets send a cool sensation from your toes throughout your body, instantly dissolving the summer heat and fatigue. The patterns on the rocks, polished smooth by the flowing water, are vivid and seem to come alive, sparking boundless imagination. Walking through the shade of the woods and setting up tents in open fields, a few close friends sit together drinking tea and chatting. At such moments, the excitement and joy well up and echo across Yaoziliang. This is the allure of Yaoziliang—a place you never want to leave.
