Donggang South Temple

Donggang South Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Wutai County.

Donggang South Temple is located southeast of Donggang Village, Taicheng Town, Wutai County. Its founding date is unknown, but according to an inscription, it was renovated in the fifth year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1740). The temple faces west and has a traditional quadrangle courtyard layout, covering an area of 1,168 square meters.

The east hall is three bays wide and four rafters deep, with a flush-gable roof covered in gray tiles. The central bay features lattice doors, while the side bays have windows, and the base is built of stone. The north hall is five bays wide and five rafters deep, with a porch extending in front of the middle three bays. The two end bays serve as study rooms. The central bay has lattice doors, while the side bays feature latticed windows. The south hall is also five bays wide and five rafters deep, with a porch in front and a flush-gable roof. Two stone inscriptions from the fifth year of the Qianlong reign still exist. In July 1985, the People’s Government of Wutai County designated it as a county-level cultural heritage site. Donggang Village: Located southeast of our county town, Donggang Village in Taicheng Town covers a total of 1,440 mu of arable land and serves as an important base for crops and livestock in the county. The village currently has 240 farming households, a population of 915, and 30 Party members. There are 13 farming households in the village, raising over a thousand livestock including cattle, pigs, and chickens.

In recent years, under the leadership of the Donggang Village Party Branch and Village Committee, and in accordance with the Party’s policies for enriching the people, extensive efforts have been made in village construction.
