Phagspa Pagoda

Phagspa Pagoda is located about 500 meters south of Guangming Temple Village in Taihuai Town, Wutai County. Phagspa (1235–1280), originally named Lodoi Gyaltsen, was a Tibetan who was conferred the title “Panchen Rinpoche Phagspa, Master of the Five Sciences” by Kublai Khan, the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty. The pagoda was built during the Yuan Dynasty. It faces west and stands approximately 13 meters tall. The base is circular; the lowest tier has a circumference of about 17.5 meters and a height of about 4 meters. The pagoda covers a ground area of 24.41 square meters. The body of the pagoda is a solid brick structure in the shape of a precious vase, largely damaged, but the finial remains intact. (From “A Collection of Cultural Relics in Xinzhou”)

Guangming Temple Village: Located to the north of Taihuai Town, Guangming Temple Village currently has a population of around 200 people, with about 120 laborers. The average per capita income is approximately 1,000 yuan. As the village is relatively far from the central area of Taihuai Town, it used to receive very few visitors. However, after Mount Wutai was successfully inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, tourist traffic increased significantly, and many visitors began staying in our village. The village has since built over ten two-story houses and opened guesthouses and restaurants. Overall, the results have been unsatisfactory, especially when compared to other villages.
