Jianfu Temple

Jianfu Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Jianfu Temple is located to the west of Baitupo Village, 16 kilometers east of Yu County. It was first built in the fourth year of the Dading era of the Jin Dynasty (1164 AD). An extant Jin Dynasty stele inscribed with the temple’s bestowed name states: “According to a petition by Monk Zhiwu of Baitupo, Yu County, Taiyuan Prefecture, this monastery previously had no official name. Having submitted the required documentation, it was specially ordained by imperial decree as Jianfu Monastery.” The temple underwent multiple renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The main hall, consisting of five bays, is situated at the center of the temple complex and features a single-eave hip-and-gable roof. The hall is approximately 15 meters long and 12 meters deep, with a ridge decoration (chiwei) over 4 meters high. Faint traces of murals can still be seen on the interior walls. The South Hall, also known as the King Hall, has a single-eave hip roof. The main structure is 10 meters wide and 9 meters deep, with eaves about 3 meters high. The bell and drum towers stand on either side of the southern section.
