Qiuyou Temple

Qiuyou Temple is located east of Yizhaokou Village, Liangjiazhai Township, 59 kilometers north of Yuan County, Shanxi Province. According to inscriptions, the temple complex was grand in scale and featured a complete architectural system. The main structures included twelve halls: the Mount Tai Temple, Jade Emperor Tower, Zhenwu Hall, Heaven and Earth Temple, Mingling King Hall, King Temple, Sangharama Temple, and others. The most well-preserved existing structure is the Zhenwu Hall, a three-bay hall facing south with a width of 11.6 meters, a depth of 9 meters, and an eave height of 6 meters. It has a single-eave hip-and-gable roof and consists of three main parts: the platform foundation, the timber frame, and the roof. The interior employs the "column-reducing method" typical of Liao and Jin dynasty architecture, making efficient use of materials while maintaining an elegant design. To the left of the entrance hall lies the Dressing Tower, a three-bay pavilion-style building with a double-eave, nine-ridge roof. The tower spans a total width of 12.8 meters, a depth of 10 meters, and a height of 8.3 meters. The architectural structure is rigorous, with well-balanced proportions between its upper and lower sections. Though partially damaged today, it remains a rare masterpiece among ancient buildings. The village raised funds from various sources between 2008 and 2009 to carry out comprehensive renovations, and it has now become an important cultural heritage site.
