Fenghou Cliff

Fenghou Cliff is located in Xing County. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, it served as the headquarters of the Central Jin-Sui Sub-Bureau and the Jin-Sui Military Region. On March 25, 1948, Mao Zedong, - , and others crossed the Yellow River from northern Shaanxi and arrived here, where Mao delivered an important speech.

The Fenghou Cliff Scenic Area features a concentration of revolutionary memorials and historical sites, including the “Jin-Sui Liberation Martyrs’ Cemetery,” located at the northern foot of Yujing Mountain in Xing County, Shanxi. Built in 1952, the cemetery covers an area of nearly 5,000 square meters, faces west, and is built along the mountain’s contour. It is divided into lower, middle, and upper courtyards, adorned with lush pines and cypresses, offering a solemn and dignified atmosphere whether viewed from afar or up close. The lower courtyard houses a single-eave hip-and-gable style memorial hall at its center, majestic and splendid, with exquisitely carved beams and painted rafters. The middle courtyard features a clear, jade-like pool spanned by a small stone bridge. A pathway of steps leads up to the base of the tower. In the upper courtyard stands a memorial tower over 14 meters high, with Mao Zedong’s inscription “Jin-Sui Liberation Martyrs Tower” on the front. The other three sides display inscriptions by He Long, Lin Feng, Li Jingquan, and Wu Xinyu. On either side of the tower are exquisitely designed hexagonal pavilions. Behind the tower, cave-style memorial rooms are built into the mountain, housing the relics and manuscripts of figures such as Wang Ruofei, Qin Bangxian (Bo Gu), Ye Ting, Deng Fa, Guan Xiangying, and Xu Fan Ting.
