The Former Site of Revolutionary Activities in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Border Region is a classic red tourism destination.

The Former Site of Revolutionary Activities in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Border Region is located in Caijiaya Township, Xing County, Shanxi Province. Originally the residence and garden of the patriotic figure Mr. Niu Youlan, it consists of three courtyards covering a total area of 8,500 square meters, with a building area of 2,100 square meters. During the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Liberation War, this site served as the capital of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Border Region, where key leaders of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Party, government, and military—such as He Long, Guan Xiangying, Lin Feng, Xue Fan Ting, Li Jingquan, Lü Zhengcao, Zhou Shidi, and Niu Yin Guan—lived and fought for an extended period. Central leaders including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, and Ren Bishi stayed here while en route to Xibaipo. The memorial site currently preserves structures such as the “Former Residence Where Leaders Stayed,” the “Site of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Cadres Conference (Former Site of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Military Region Auditorium),” the “Site of Chairman Mao’s Conversation with Shanxi-Suiyuan Daily Staff,” and the Six Willow Pavilion, along with a white marble statue of Marshal He Long. It was designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1996.

The site houses a collection of 4,300 cultural relics, mainly consisting of historical documents, modern artifacts, photographs, and editions from the War of Resistance Against Japan onward. The exhibition halls cover an area of 1,050 square meters and are divided into seven rooms, featuring displays such as the “Exhibition on the Revolutionary Struggle History of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Border Region,” the “Memorial Exhibition on Chairman Mao’s Revolutionary Activities in Caijiaya,” and the “Exhibition on the Life and Deeds of Comrade He Long.” Published works include Chronicles of Figures in the Shanxi-Suiyuan Border Region and Niu Youlan: A Patriotic Democrat of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Border Region. The site has also assisted in the production of numerous documentaries, feature films, and educational videos. It is recognized as a base for patriotic education, revolutionary tradition education, and national defense education by the provincial, municipal, and county governments. In 1995, it was designated as a Provincial Patriotic Education Base by the Shanxi Provincial Committee and Government.
