Yu Daohe Site (Second Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic Age

Location: 6 km north of Fenyang City, in Yu Daohe Town

The site is situated west of the Fen River, on the foothills of gently sloping hills, and extends to the undulating Lüliang Mountain Range. It contains relics from the Yangshao Culture (Miaodigou Type) and the Late Longshan Culture.

The site is widely distributed and stretches from south to north, extending northward through Lizhengou to Tianshu and Shuiquan, and eastward to several natural villages including Yatai and Yukou, covering an area of approximately 6.8 million square meters. It forms a continuous line with the Dongbao and Shangxian sites. The cultural remains are abundant, with exposed artifacts including urn burials and rectangular vertical pits oriented east-west. Surveys have revealed two urns placed mouth-to-mouth in burial pits, along with pottery fragments such as small-mouthed pointed-bottom bottles, cord-patterned jars, painted pottery bowls, pottery basins—mostly clay basins with linear patterns. Collected samples include stone axes, pottery rings, stone knives, pottery knives, disc-shaped tools, li tripods, dou stem bowls, and zeng steamers among other pottery items.
