Concession Site

The Concession Site is located in Mengzi County. After the Sino-French War, according to the "Sino-French Additional Commercial Treaty" signed in 1878, Mengzi was opened as a treaty port, and the area outside the east gate of the county town was designated as the Concession Site. The Mengzi Customs and the French Consulate were subsequently established, and seven countries—France, Britain, Italy, Japan, Germany, the United States, and Greece—set up consulates.

Foreign firms, banks, railway bureaus, prisons, churches, hotels, and others were successively built, totaling more than 30. After the port was opened in 1889, imperialist powers recklessly plundered China. Five surviving structures remain—the Customs Taxation Office, the French Consulate, a garden, a prison, and the Greek firm of Gouluoshi—as relics of imperialist aggression in China.
