The Lancang River, which shares the same source as the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, is a legendary river in western China. It begins as melting droplets from icicles on snow-capped mountain ranges in the Tanggula Mountains, forming small waterfalls that gather into delicate, clear streams. With a vast and embracing spirit, it merges with rivers such as the Bi River, Yangbi River, Wei Yuan River, Buyuan River, Heihui River, and countless smaller streams and creeks. It surges forward with foamy waves, spraying pearls and scattering jade, roaring mightily all the way.

A stretch of clear spring water winds between the surrounding mountains, while wisps of mist adorn the river-crossing bridge, making it look as beautiful as a rainbow, creating a harmonious scene where mountains, water, and sky blend seamlessly. The ripples stirred by the breeze break the sunlight into many fragments, as if countless brilliant pearls are inlaid on the calm lake surface. “Sweetness and serenity” have become the hallmarks of the Lancang River today. High gorges give rise to a flat lake, rainbows connect the mountains, and the Hundred-Mile Long Lake of the Xiaowan Reservoir area presents a new face, interpreting another aspect of the Lancang River’s beauty.
