Muhuang Meeting Monument

The Muhuang Meeting Monument is a Guizhou Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism attraction.

Situated on the mountainside of General Hill to the left of Muhuang in Yinjiang Tujia and Miao Autonomous County, fronting the Heng River. In May 1934, He Long and Guan Xiangying led the Third Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army across the Wu River from Pengshui, Sichuan to the west, swiftly capturing a vast contiguous area spanning six counties including Yanhe, Dejiang, Yinjiang, Songtao, Youyang, and Xiushan, establishing the Qiandong Special District Government and over a hundred township soviets. In August of the same year, Ren Bishi, - , and Xiao Ke led the Sixth Red Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army as the vanguard of the Central Red Army’s Long March. They broke through from Yongxin, Jiangxi, passed through Hunan into Guizhou, and arrived in the Muhuang and Songtao Shiliang areas of Yinjiang in late October, where they successfully joined forces with He’s troops (the Third Red Army was then restored to its original designation as the Second Army Corps).

In 1976, the Yinjiang County Committee decided to build a monument in Muhuang. It was completed in June 1978. The front of the monument bears large regular-script characters reading “Monument to the Meeting of the Second and Sixth Corps of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in Muhuang,” inscribed by - . The monument is square-shaped, tapering toward the top, standing 14.2 meters high, with guardrails and steps, covering an area of 720 square meters.
