The Wujiang River Gorge boasts picturesque landscapes, presenting wonders of the world; the rich and colorful Tujia culture showcases the beauty of human life. The mighty Wujiang River flows thousands of miles, seamlessly blending with the profound Tujia culture here, creating a perfect harmony. On October 18th, aiming to promote the unique tourism resources of Yanhe, the China Guizhou · Yanhe Wujiang River Gorge Hundred-Mile Gallery Tourism and Culture Festival grandly opened under the theme of “The Magical Wujiang Gallery and the Colorful Tujia Culture.” Chen Yiqin, Commissioner of the Administrative Office, delivered a speech on behalf of the regional leadership, while Gu Mingjie, Secretary of the Yanhe County Party Committee, gave a welcome address. Multiple talented actors from the “Colorful Guizhou” art troupe performed, and Long Qianshi, a nationally renowned painter and President of the Beijing Huaxia Shenlong Art Research Institute, presented his masterpiece “The Dragon of the Yellow River, the Dragon of the Yangtze River, and the Dragon of the Wujiang River” as a gift to the festival. The gorge is charming, and the Tujia people’s sentiments run deep. In his speech, Gu Mingjie, Secretary of the Yanhe County Party Committee, said that Yanhe is a distinctive tourist area along the Wujiang River, the mother river of Guizhou, and serves as a golden waterway from northeastern Guizhou into Central China, often referred to as the “Ancient Town of Northern Guizhou and the Key Passage of the Wujiang River.” The county is home to natural landscapes such as the Wujiang River Gorge Hundred-Mile Gallery, which rivals the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, as well as the Mayanghe National Nature Reserve, the world’s largest habitat of black-leaf monkeys. It is also the site of the first red revolutionary base on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Yanhe boasts vibrant and diverse ethnic customs, including the Tujia Hand-Waving Dance, the Meat Lotus Dance, and the long-standing Nuo Opera, all of which have drawn worldwide attention. For these reasons, Yanhe stands out as a unique gem in the broader regions of Guizhou, Chongqing, and the Wuling Mountain Area. Over the past two years, Yanhe has focused on its development goal of becoming a “riverfront tourism hub county,” vigorously promoting its unique tourism resources. It has established a tourism framework comprising “one river (the Wujiang River), two towns (Qitan Ancient Town and Hongdu Ancient Town), and three areas (the Mayanghe Black-Leaf Monkey National Nature Reserve, the Red Tourism Area at Land Bay—the former site of the Southeastern Guizhou Revolutionary Committee, and the Natural Ecotourism Area of Bawang Valley).” It has also designed a premium tourism route across Hunan, Chongqing, and Guizhou: “Zhangjiajie — Fenghuang Ancient Town — Fanjing Mountain — The Wujiang River Gorge Hundred-Mile Gallery — Chongqing Gongtan Ancient Town,” and is striving to develop a tourism destination centered around “The Wujiang River Gorge Hundred-Mile Gallery — Mayanghe National Nature Reserve — the Former Site of the Southeastern Guizhou Revolutionary Base.” This has initially formed five distinctive tourism markets: sightseeing tourism, leisure tourism, cultural tourism, traditional education tourism, and tourism product consumption.
