Yangasha Lake Scenic Area

Yangasha Lake Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Jianhe Yangasha Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area is situated in the eastern part of Guizhou Province, spanning Jinping, Liping, and Jianhe counties. It was created by the Sanbanxi Hydropower Station, a major project under the national 10th Five-Year Plan on the Qingshui River. The main navigable channel of the lake is 130 kilometers long (with over 80% located within Jianhe County), and it encompasses more than 50 tributary waterways that spread out in a tree-like pattern, with a combined tributary channel length of 120 kilometers. The average width of the lake surface exceeds 360 meters, with the widest point surpassing 1,500 meters. The reservoir covers an area of nearly 80 square kilometers. The resulting water body has transformed once-remote, high-mountain Miao and Dong villages with well-preserved primitive vegetation into easily accessible destinations, thus forming a rare comprehensive tourism zone that integrates sightseeing, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, cruise tourism, and resort experiences.

The Jianhe Yangasha Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area boasts beautiful natural landscapes, fresh air, no pollution, and excellent water quality. Its natural tourism resources are abundant, featuring multi-layered scenery such as mountains, water, bridges, villages, gardens, springs, and bays, encompassing dozens of landscape types. As the Qingshui River maintains an independent water system and largely retains its pristine state, biological and animal resources are well preserved, with rich biodiversity—dozens of species are under national first- or second-class protection. The area also has extremely rich cultural tourism resources, including the world-renowned Miao silver embroidery and red embroidery, as well as the folk customs of the Miao and Dong peoples. These ethnic groups have developed unique lifestyles, giving rise to distinctive cultural landscapes in production, daily life, beliefs, social interactions, festivals, folklore, cuisine, and marriage traditions. The Yangasha Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area is divided into several sections: a mountain-water garden tourism city with Miao and Dong ethnic characteristics, a radon-sulfur hot spring scenic area, the Balang Paleontological Fossil Cluster scenic area, a hundred-mile primeval broadleaf forest scenic area, and the Yangasha Lake scenic area. Within the Yangasha Lake area, there are five major scenic segments: the Grand Pool Scenic Spot, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Nine Dragons Gorge, Fish Leaping Gorge, and Nanshao Lake Bay. With lakes connecting to lakes, scenery within scenery, and mountains beyond mountains, along with well-preserved natural ecology and rich ethnic culture, these local customs and the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature are exactly what international travelers seek.
