Leidatang is a mysterious alpine lake. According to geological surveys, it has existed for over 4,000 years, formed when a massive mountain collapse dammed a stream. The scars of that ancient landslide are still faintly visible.

Leidatang, as if carved by knives and axes, bears the marks left by the collapse of half a mountainside. It consists of Sister Pond, Aunt Pond, and Dog Pond. Their names come from a beautiful legend. Leidatang has broad, unfathomably deep waters that merge into one during floods but remain separate during dry seasons.

The main scenic features of Leidatang include Murky Waves Foretelling Snow, Waterborne Rainbows, Lake Jets of Jade, and the Pond’s Edge. The most famous is Murky Waves Foretelling Snow: whenever the pond water turns murky in winter, heavy snow is sure to follow within a week. A week after the snowfall, the water becomes clear again. The color changes of the pond water serve as a local predictor of snowfall. This peculiar phenomenon has drawn many explorers, yet none have unraveled its mystery.
