Dongxu Site (Fourth Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic

Location: Between the three villages of Dongxu, Jinzhuang, and Tingcheng in Gaoxian Town, Quwo County

The site extends about 1,500 meters westward and northward from the highland west of Tingcheng Village, covering a total area of over 2 million square meters. Its central area is near an apple orchard approximately 800 meters from Dongxu Village. Traces of the site can still be seen on the exposed cliffs along the roadside. Major remains include ash pits and bag-shaped storage pits.

The Dongxu Site was discovered in the 1950s and 1960s, and excavations were carried out twice, in the summer of 1986 and the spring of 1995. Through several surveys, it has been determined that the main cultural elements of the Dongxu Site belong to the Taosi culture type of the Longshan period, along with scattered remnants of the Miaodigou culture from the Yangshao period.
