The Primitive Forest of Hailuogou

The unique geographical conditions of Hailuogou create an elevation difference of about 6,000 meters within the valley. As a result, distinct multi-layered climate zones, vegetation belts, and soil strata have formed, concentrating over 2,500 species of wild plants — ranging from subtropical to frigid zone species — within one scenic area. Strolling slowly along the mountain loop road, visitors can clearly sense the endless variation of plant life around them. From the palm trees in the valley and lush bamboo groves, to towering ancient trees in the primitive forest and vast fields of wild rhododendrons in full bloom; all the way up to the colorful alpine herbs and lichen vegetation at high altitudes — the scenery is truly breathtaking.

Hailuogou is home to more than 400 species of wild animals, including 28 that are under national protection. These animals roam through the valleys and primitive forests. Although the area is also inhabited by fierce creatures such as bears and wild boars, they will not attack humans unless provoked. Most wild animals have gradually become familiar with people. With the increase in tourism and the enforcement of wildlife protection laws, the day is coming when these animals will no longer fear humans and will live in harmony with visitors.
