Panda Ancient City Scenic Area

The Panda Ancient City Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Panda Ancient City is located in Muping Town, the central urban area of Baoxing County in the western part of the Sichuan Basin, 199 kilometers from Chengdu and 74 kilometers from Ya'an. The ancient city has a long history — during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, it was the territory of the Qiang Kingdom of Qingyi. During the Qin and Han dynasties, Han people migrated into the area and the Qingyi County was established. In 1928, the native chieftain system was abolished, and in 1930, the county was officially founded and renamed Baoxing County. The scenic area features attractions such as a memorial hall for Jiajin Mountain — the first high-altitude snow mountain crossed by the Red Army during the Long March, the Red Army Square, the Panda Square, and water landscape displays; the Riverside Time Corridor showcasing the 8-million-year evolutionary journey of the giant panda; the White Marble Relief Gallery recounting the red stories of the Long March and introducing Baoxing’s rare flora and fauna species; a planned Panda Sculpture Theme Park themed around 23 giant pandas that served as “peace ambassadors” for international exchanges; the ruins of the Muping Tusi Official Fortress, which had been an administrative center for over 260 years (1662–1928); and the well-preserved Yongfu Temple, originally built during the Ming Dynasty's Yongle era.

Muping Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Baoxing County and the location of the county government. During the Qing Dynasty, it was the site of the Muping Tusi. In 1935, it was divided into Nancheng and Beicheng towns, in 1951 the towns were abolished and replaced with Chengqu Township, in 1958 it became Chengguan Commune, in 1981 it was established as Chengguan Town, and in 1992 it was renamed Muping Town. It serves as the seat of the county government, located in the southern part of the county. Covering an area of 165.9 square kilometers with a population of 11,000, it is where the Feixian Pass–Baoxing, Baoxing–Qiaoqi, and Baoxing–Longdong highways intersect.
