Puji Gully

Puji Gully is located in Yongfu Township, northwest of Baoxing County, about 34 kilometers from the county town. The entrance of Puji Gully to the management station of Jialin Bureau is 10 kilometers away. Situated on the eastern slope of the Erlang Mountain–Jiajin Mountain range and bordering Kangding in Garzê Prefecture, it is known as the “Rain Screen of Western China.” The gully is often veiled in clouds and fog, featuring high mountains, thick forests, and habitats for rare animals such as the giant panda, golden snub-nosed monkey, and antelope. It has been rarely frequented by humans since ancient times. Covering an area of over 100 square kilometers, Puji Gully is a typical pristine river valley forest region with crisscrossing streams, picturesque landscapes, abundant waterfalls, unique peaks, and ancient trees easily within reach. It is a rare paradise on earth. Within the gully stands the Shixue Mountain, which rises 5,328 meters above sea level. Its peak resembles a vivid stone figure and was once a sacred pilgrimage site in Tibetan Buddhism. Shixue Mountain and the primeval plant communities of Puji Gully form a breathtaking scene of blue skies and white clouds, snow-capped mountains and black waters, fir trees and azaleas, clear creeks and white waterfalls, as well as hanging lichens and mosses. The gully entrance can be reached via the Bao-Yong Highway, with forest roads leading to the core scenic areas. A new road connecting Baoxing to Kangding is under construction to integrate with tourism in Garzê Prefecture.
