Naozhang Site (Third Batch of Provincial Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic Age

Location: Southeast of Naozhang, Xiwai Village, Xijia Township, six kilometers south of Tunliu County

The site is situated on flat land, connected to Dongwei Village in the east, bordering Situ in the south, backed by Cuiping Mountain in the north, and encircled by the Yuxi River. It spans an area of about 77,500 square meters. Cultural layers are visible on the exposed cliffs and ground within the site, containing large amounts of ash soil and pottery shards. The pottery shards are predominantly gray pottery, decorated mainly with cord and combed patterns. Identifiable artifacts include the leg of a Neolithic-era pottery li tripod, the rim of pottery jars, stone shovels, as well as pottery bean stems and bean trays from the Shang and Zhou periods, and common thin cord-patterned pottery jars and polished pottery fragments from the Han Dynasty. The overall cultural layer is about 0.5–2.0 meters thick. Additionally, a significant number of ancient tombs dating back to the Warring States and Han periods are buried within the protected area of the site.
