Liantian Mountain — Concealed Resting Place of the Red Army Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Area Guerrilla Column

Liantian Mountain is located at the junction of Longfeng Village in Wuxing Township, Xingwen County, and Dajing Township and Renhe Township in Jiang'an County. The mountain stretches for dozens of miles with lush forests. It covers an area of 25 square kilometers and has an elevation of over 800 meters.

In late November 1935, the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Area Guerrilla Column of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army ventured deep behind enemy lines alone. Due to prolonged fighting, casualties increased, and neither manpower nor supplies could be replenished, the force gradually dwindled from over 1,000 to just over 100. As a result, at a special committee meeting held in Jiawan, Changning County, it was decided to break the column into two units to operate separately, buying time for rest and recovery in preparation for future strikes against the enemy. During the enemy siege, Political Commissar Yu Zehong unfortunately sacrificed his life. Subsequently, the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Area Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party held another meeting at Tashui Bridge in Xingwen County. Commander Liu Ganchen remained behind to recover from his injuries at a local villager’s home, while the newly appointed Special Committee Secretary and Column Political Commissar, Liu Fuchu, led the remaining 17 members up Liantian Mountain to conceal and rest. Three days later, they were besieged again by the enemy, who conducted daily mountain searches. Liu Fuchu led the team in persistently evading the enemy, overcoming numerous hardships with strong revolutionary will. After more than a month of enemy encirclement and suppression, the enemy declared that the “bandits had been annihilated and their leaders killed.” In January 1936, Liu Fuchu led his team away from Liantian Mountain, regathering former members and stragglers. The force quickly grew to over 200 people, organized into two battalions to continue the fight. In February 1936, at an expanded meeting of the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Border Area Special Committee of the Chinese Communist Party held in Luobolin, Xingwen County, the Special Committee was reorganized to continue the revolutionary armed struggle.
