The Jiawu Red Army Long March Monument and the Red Army Stele Forest

The Jiawu Red Army Long March Monument and the Red Army Stele Forest are classic red tourism scenic sites.

The Xingwen Jiawu Red Army Long March Monument and the Red Army Stele Forest are located in Jiawu Village, Jiusi Town, Xingwen County, approximately 55 kilometers from the county seat of Xingwen.

Xingwen County’s Jiawu (which historically served as the county seat) was a site traversed by the Central Red Army during the Long March and also a battlefield for the Red Army’s Sichuan–Yunnan Guerrilla Column. Over ten Red Army soldiers lost their lives here, including Dai Yuanhuai, the political department head (originally from the Eighth Red Army Corps) of the Red Army Sichuan–Yunnan Guerrilla Column, who was martyred within the Jiawu region. In the 1930s, the Party organization established peasant associations within the Jiawu jurisdiction and organized armed uprisings, making it an area with a strong revolutionary historical tradition.

To commemorate the Red Army's Long March and honor the revolutionary martyrs, the local party committee and government built the Jiawu Red Army Long March Monument and the Red Army Stele Forest in 1983. It covers an area of 1,200 square meters, with murals depicting the history of Red Army battles on both sides of the enclosing wall. On the left side, there is a pond stocked with goldfish and lotuses, enclosed by a stone railing. At the center of the rear section is the “Revolutionary Martyrs Monument,” which stands 5.58 meters tall, with a base that is 2 meters long and wide. On the pedestal is inscribed a line by Liu Fuchu, former commander and political commissar of the Sichuan–Yunnan–Guizhou Border Guerrilla Column: “Loyal hearts shine upon Jiawu, crimson blood stains Yuping; the spirit of the Red Army lives on, inspiring China to rise.” On the left is a monument inscribed with the words “Revolutionary Martyrs Monument” by Zhang Aiping, former Minister of National Defense, while on the right is a statue of a Red Army soldier carrying a knife. Behind the monument lies the “Tomb of Red Army Martyrs,” and further back is a screen-like “Red Army Memorial Hall,” also inscribed by Liu Fuchu.

The Red Army Long March Monument and the Red Army Stele Forest have now become important sites for paying tribute to the martyrs and for revolutionary tradition education.

Jiusi Town: In 2019, the Yuxiu Miao Ethnic Township was abolished, and its administrative region was incorporated into the jurisdiction of Jiusi Town. The People’s Government of Jiusi Town is located at No. 140, Middle Section of Bikeng Avenue.

Jiusi Town is located 64 kilometers west of the county seat. It borders Daba Miao Ethnic Township to the east, Yunnan Province to the south, Shipai and Caoying townships of Gong County to the west, and Xianfeng and Yuxiu Miao Ethnic Townships to the north. Covering an area of about 140 square kilometers, with elevations ranging from 580 to 1,369 meters, the area is predominantly mountainous and represents a typical southwestern basin landscape.
